Day 2 – Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Bwindi (Uganda)
Explore Kigali including the Genocide Memorial before traveling to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda.
Day 3 – Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali
Experience mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi before returning to Kigali.
Day 4 – Cultural Rwanda Excursion
Visit Rwanda’s historical and cultural landmarks including the King’s Palace and National Museum.
Day 5 – Flight to Bujumbura (Burundi)
Fly to Bujumbura and relax along the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Day 6 – Rutana & Gitega Cultural Tour
Explore waterfalls, the Source of the Nile, Burundi’s National Museum and the famous royal drum sanctuary.
Day 7 – Bujumbura City Tour & Departure
Visit Rusizi National Park and important city landmarks before your departure.
DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1 – Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali, you will be welcomed by your guide at Kigali International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Kigali is known for its cleanliness, safety, and scenic hills.
Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the hotel or take a short orientation drive through the city to get a first glimpse of Rwanda’s vibrant capital.
Spend the evening resting after your journey and preparing for the adventure ahead.

Day 2 – Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda
After breakfast, begin a guided city tour of Kigali. The first stop is the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides an important insight into Rwanda’s history and the resilience of its people.
You will also visit the Kigali Art Museum, where contemporary African artwork and cultural exhibits showcase Rwanda’s growing creative scene.
Later, depart for Uganda and drive toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa’s most ancient and biodiverse rainforests. The scenic journey takes you through rolling hills, rural villages, and lush landscapes typical of the Great Lakes region.
Upon arrival, check into your lodge and attend a briefing about the gorilla trekking activity scheduled for the following morning.

Day 3 – Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali
Today is the highlight of your journey. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers before beginning your trek into the rainforest.
Guided by experienced trackers, you will hike through the dense jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek may take anywhere between one and four hours depending on the location of the gorillas.
Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, groom, and interact within their family group. This rare wildlife encounter is often described as one of the most profound experiences in Africa.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before driving back to Kigali.

Day 4 – Cultural Rwanda Excursion
After breakfast, depart Kigali for a cultural excursion to Rwanda’s historic southern region.
Your first stop is the Nyanza King’s Palace, the traditional residence of Rwanda’s former monarchs. Here you will learn about the country’s royal history and see the famous long-horned Inyambo cattle.
Next, visit the Ethnographic Museum, one of the most important cultural museums in East Africa. The museum displays traditional artifacts, musical instruments, clothing, and exhibits that highlight Rwanda’s rich heritage.
Return to Kigali in the late afternoon for an evening at leisure.

Day 5 – Kigali to Bujumbura (Burundi)
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning before transferring to the airport for your flight to Bujumbura.
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel located near the shores of Lake Tanganyika, one of the deepest lakes in the world.
Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the lakeside, enjoying the warm tropical climate and scenic views.

Day 6 – Rutana & Gitega Cultural Excursion
After an early breakfast, depart Bujumbura for a scenic drive to Rutana Province in southern Burundi.
Your first stop is the beautiful Karera Waterfalls, a series of impressive cascading falls surrounded by lush vegetation.
Continue to Rutovu to visit the historic Source of the Nile, an important geographical landmark marking one of the Nile River’s southern sources.
The journey then continues to Gitega, Burundi’s political capital. Here you will explore the Gitega National Museum, which houses traditional crafts, royal artifacts, and cultural exhibits.
You will also visit the Gishora Drum Sanctuary, where the sacred royal drums of Burundi are preserved. These drums play an important role in the country’s traditional ceremonies.
After the visits, return to Bujumbura.

Day 7 – Bujumbura City Tour & Departure
After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Bujumbura and its surroundings.
Begin with a visit to Rusizi National Park, located near the mouth of the Rusizi River where it flows into Lake Tanganyika. A boat ride here offers opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, and birdlife.
Continue to several city landmarks including the Livingstone & Stanley Monument, the Unity Monument, and the Islamic Cultural Centre.
You will also visit Belvedere Hill, which offers panoramic views of the city and Lake Tanganyika.
Later, transfer to the airport for your departure flight, bringing your East African cultural journey to an end.
